Let me first say people either love or hate Callanetics. Their love comes from the ability to overlook the datedness of this workout. It is also mellow to the point of watching paint dry. And the movements are so small that it really leads one to question whether or not the participants are actually moving. Those who hate Callanetics generally cannot overlook these drawbacks. The Callanetics lovers find it fills a niche. Let me quickly move to the positives of Super Callanetics and why I'm one who loves it.
This is the ultimate in effective barre workouts. Super Callanetics takes working the rear and legs a step further than the other Callanetics by adding a few more standing advanced moves. It is amazing how micro movements can produce such changes quickly! This workout is great for people who want something different from the average gym-style workout. There are no weights, no high impact, no hyper instructor telling you you're going to get sexy. There's just Callan and her students and she's focused on giving you a peaceful yet deceptively effective workout. There were times during the workout I didn't feel like I was doing much but I found my legs shaking afterwards and I had soreness in my abs the next day. And here is the reason I would buy it again if I had to: After doing the workout 2 times I noticed a difference in how my clothing fit! I have only 5 lbs to lose for goal weight so I wasn't expecting to see such a quick difference! I did nothing to change my diet. My pants are now a little looser in the waist, thighs, and seat. I can see how this workout would bring remarkable results quickly with a reasonable diet, and a rotation of cardio added. Some other things to know: There is little upper body focus. A few moves will tie in chest, back, shoulders, triceps, but there are no moves that target these muscles. There is a tutorial showing the specifics of each movement but there are little form pointers during the actual workout. If you're new to barre workouts and Callanetics I would recommend getting the Beginning or Original Callanetics before throwing Super Callanetics into your rotation. She uses a lower back tuck that can feel awkward at first. But if you skip the others and go straight to Super, it is manageable if you really pay attention to form. There are no chapters during the workout itself. For those who want to focus only on legs or abs, you'll have to fast fwd to these parts. It hasn't been a hindrance to me. And last, this website is the most reasonably priced place to find Super Callanetics and I do shop around!
